Three Kings' Day at Peta Zeta Park: the park for your family from 09:00 to 23:00

· Peta Zeta Park · 10 min read

6 January (Three Kings’ Day, when Spanish children get their presents) is one of those odd days in the family calendar: the children have spent all morning opening presents, there’s roscón (the traditional ring-shaped cake), cousins, grandparents and almost always an afternoon that drags on while all that pent-up energy needs an outlet. Peta Zeta Park doesn’t open to the public on that day (or on any other: the park is only ever hired out whole), but on 6 January it can be hired from 09:00 to 23:00. It’s a way to bring the whole family together with the park all to yourselves, without the house turning into a battlefield.

Hire times on 6 January

Three Kings’ Day at Peta Zeta Park: 6 January, hire of the whole park from 09:00 to 23:00.

That’s fourteen hours in a row, more than any ordinary Saturday or public holiday. The idea is to give you total flexibility: the park is yours all day, so you can arrive in the morning, after the family lunch or before dinner, and stay as long as suits you within those times.

These are the usual hire times for the rest of the year:

  • Mon–Thu: 16:00–22:00
  • Fri and eves of public holidays: 16:00–23:00
  • Sat, Sun and public holidays: 12:00–23:00

Hire times subject to those published by Badajoz City Council for Christmas. If anything changes, we’ll announce it on our social media and it will be shown on our prices and hire times page.

How to make the most of a whole day

Think about three typical family “windows” on 6 January. With the park hired, you can use one, two or all three:

Morning (09:00–13:00)

Children already tired of opening presents and wound up by all the excitement. The cousins let off steam in the park while the grown-ups get organised. Especially handy if there are lots of you and the “overexcited” little ones are getting under everyone’s feet at home while lunch is being made.

Lunch and afternoon (13:00–19:00)

If the family lunch is a big one, you can have it at the park: bring it ready-made or finish it off in the kitchen, and while the adults linger over the roscón, the children play. The afternoon of 6 January is a classic for a play centre: elsewhere almost everything is closed for the public holiday.

Late afternoon and evening (19:00–23:00)

For families who have lunch at home and want an evening out. The children let off steam, you have a light dinner that you’ve brought with you, and they go to bed properly tired. Great for making sure 7 January (back to school for many) isn’t chaos.

What there is and what there isn’t on the day

The park doesn’t organise activities or put up Three Kings’ decorations: the day is yours and you create the atmosphere. What you get:

  • The whole park for the family: a ball pit with slides, a children’s climbing wall, a trampoline, a football pitch, a Baby Park for under-3s and an inclusive sensory swing
  • A kitchen to prepare and serve your own food and drinks
  • A dedicated area for the decorations you bring

What there isn’t: food or drinks for sale, activities or entertainment from the park, or park staff during the hire. The children are looked after by the adults in the family.

If you fancy setting the scene, a few cardboard stars and crowns, a corner for the family photo with some Three Kings’ crowns you bring yourselves, or a small gift prepared for each cousin are enough to make the day feel special.

Why 6 January is a good day out at Peta Zeta Park

Beyond the times, there are three underlying reasons:

1. A covered venue all to yourselves when almost everything is closed

In Badajoz, on 6 January many shops, bars and restaurants close, or close earlier than usual. Finding something to do with children at 16:00 is tricky. Having an indoor play centre booked for the family from the morning solves it, and you don’t have to share it with anyone.

2. It solves the “we don’t know what to do now” problem

The afternoon of 6 January has a psychology all of its own: presents opened, heavy meal digested, cousins tired, parents wanting a rest. The formula “they let off steam, we catch our breath” works incredibly well, especially if the adults take turns keeping an eye on the children.

3. It rounds off the Christmas holidays nicely

For many children, 7 or 8 January is back to school. A good active day on the 6th helps get their sleep back on track and lets them face the next morning’s alarm clock more calmly.

What you need to know if you hire it that day

Booking

On 6 January, as on any other day, the park can only be used by hiring it whole, so you definitely need to book, and in advance: ideally at least 2–3 weeks ahead. WhatsApp us on +34 698 992 995. Hire starts from €110 per day; ask for the price for that date when you book.

What to bring

Everything the family is going to eat and drink (no food or drinks are sold at the park), the decorations if you’d like to set the scene, and non-slip socks for the children (compulsory in the play zones). If you’re coming with a baby, their usual changing bag with a change of clothes, nappies and a bottle.

Food on the day

No food or drinks are sold at Peta Zeta Park: what there is is a kitchen where the family can prepare and serve its own. The roscón, food you bring ready-made from home, a light tea after the big lunch… If any child has an allergy or intolerance, you’re in control of it, because you’re the ones preparing the food.

If a child has sensory needs

Because it’s a private hire, only your family will be in the park that day: there are no crowds of strangers. Even so, with lots of cousins together the noise level goes up. If you’re coming with a child with autism or hypersensitivity, we recommend:

  • Setting aside a quiet spell, for example first thing in the morning, before the rest of the family arrives
  • Using the inclusive sensory swing whenever they need it: any child in the group can use it
  • Having an adult who knows them well keep an eye on them: there are no park staff on site during the hire

In another guide we explain in detail why the sensory swing matters and how to make the most of it.

Frequently asked questions about Three Kings’ Day

Can we go to the park on 6 January without booking?

No. Peta Zeta Park doesn’t open to the public with tickets: on 6 January, as for the rest of the year, the park is hired out whole to one group, in this case from 09:00 to 23:00.

Are there special activities for the children?

No. The park doesn’t organise activities or put up Three Kings’ decorations. You create the day yourselves: you have the whole park, a kitchen and an area to put up your own decorations.

Is there anyone from the park looking after the children?

No. There are no park staff on site during the hire: the children are looked after by the adults in the family.

It doesn’t matter: we’re an indoor play centre, so the rain won’t spoil your plans.

Yes, whatever you bring yourselves. The park doesn’t sell food or drinks, but you have a kitchen to prepare and serve your own food and drinks.

How much does it cost?

How to make the most of 6 January with children

  • Wake up without rushing: it’s going to be a long day. They don’t need to be up at 07:00 to open presents. If the magic arrives at 09:00, that works too.
  • Limit “present time”: an hour is plenty. Beyond that, children get overloaded and stop enjoying their new toys.
  • Get out of the living room at least once: a walk, the park, any outing helps you avoid cramming the whole day into the house.
  • Have the afternoon sorted: if you’ve hired the park, it already is; if not, having an “afternoon wildcard” up your sleeve saves you the strain of improvising.
  • Light dinner: after so much heavy food in the morning, a light dinner helps them sleep soundly.
